Would You Admit To Reading Yaoi?

..Of course I can holler this here, or anywhere on the internet anonymously, but no way in hell am I doing it in real life. So this is what happened. I started talking to my friends about watching anime and the conversation went on to me going to cosplay as Asuna from Sword Art Online one day, and it escalated to my friend commenting that the outfit looked like something right out of hentai shit and her daring me to disagree, because “Who knows more about Hentai than me?”

And then the topic became Yaoi. And  not only one person– somehow, quite a couple of friends actually openly admit to reading and enjoying Yaoi and even people who are not really into anime eagerly pop into the conversation. Like whaaaaaaat.

Let’s not mention the fact that firstly, we’re underage to be reading this stuff. Okay I sound like a stupid goody-two-shoes. But when you say stuff like, “oh I read Yaoi and Hentai” in real life, you’re actually admitting that you read porn brazenly. Fine. Now that I think about it, there’s nothing wrong in this day and age anyway. Since i’m pretty sure that EVERY otaku reads at least smut or ecchi manga and even I wouldn’t believe anyone who says they don’t. So maybe my friends know that I do read Yaoi. I indulge in it so much, lol. Continue reading

Black Lagoon

Let me start this with a bang– this show is fucking awesome! PEACE. I’m not really a vulgar person but that word has gotta accentuate the greatness of this great anime. As you would probably noticed, i’ve even changed my icon to a picture of my new-found love, Revy.

Yeah, her. And Black Lagoon is going down as one of my favorite animes ever! How did I ever choose not to watch it earlier?!

Akame ga Kiru

This is it. You absolutely cannot miss out on this manga!! A rare treasure that i’ve finally unearthed!!!!!!

So I was feeling bored and unloved, and hence set off on a quest to find a beautiful shoujo that would make my heart thump and my cheeks redden (no, that never happens. I only get shivers when a manga becomes too good for me xD). And obviously while searching for the romance/shoujo/comedy genres I scrolled through every page and realized, “WTH. I’VE ACTUALLY READ THEM ALL. EVEN THE CRAPPY ONES.” Shoujo manga otaku, indeed.

BUT THEN, while I let my options run more broadly and only checked the ‘romance’ tag, I FOUND IT. A GOOD MANGA. AKAME GA KIRU!!!!

(No, this is a totally unrelated picture of Kuroshitsuji. A cute picture was required to get into my extremely happy mood now.) Continue reading

Arcana Famiglia

So there’s this really random anime that I really randomly chanced upon, and it’s Arcana Famiglia. Watching it made me smile :)

Currently there’s only 3 episodes out on Animeseason so I can’t really judge this. It’s not a very unique or interesting anime, but it’s exactly the type of story that I like :D Not your usual romance and shoujo. It’s about this girl who belongs in an organization full of vigilantes who are all ‘arcana-users’, which means that each of them have an individualized power (e.g. mind reading, invisibility, strength) which is allocated by some ‘card’. Brainy guys

So.. I admit that i’m so addicted to romance that I rarely step out of the romance zone to read other genres of manga. But once in a while, I try, and I realize that there’s a whole range of non-romance stories out there that are just so AWESOME!

But i’ll just be stating 3 of them that are being widely compared because their protagonists all have one (amazing and appealing and charming and cool) common feature, which is their advanced brains. THEY’RE GENIUSES!! Can you guess the manga now? :)

1. Death note- Who hasn’t heard of it? Who doesn’t love Light? In some ways, he might be a twisted character but his charisma and appeal will never stop oozing out. I mean, look at him.

Cheesy Shojos

There’s always this thing about shojo manga that pulls me in– maybe I’m just a sucker for romance, but no matter how cheesy the plot is, I’d always fall in love with the characters. Well, most of the time. What exactly makes it so intriguing, I wonder?

Is it the heartache that we all feel when the heroine is crying? It certainly makes the male lead wake up and do something after that, and this scene never fails to appear in most shojo mangas. Speaking of these cliches, based on my experience of reading many of such mangas, let me try to name a few! :) Continue reading
